Former Home and Away legend Kate Ritchie has devastated soap fans after confirming that she has no future plans to return to the show. Known for her role as Sally Fletcher

on the Australian soap, Ritchie joined Home and Away in 1988 before leaving in 2008. She made a brief guest appearance back in 2013. Since then, rumours have circulated

that Ritchie might return to the role, though she has now revealed that those rumours are untrue. In news that is sure to upset fans of the soap, Ritchie said she has no plans to head back to the Bay any time soon.

Appearing on her regular radio show Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie today, Ritchie told her co-host Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli that the show didn’t need her anymore.

“The show is doing so well, it doesn’t need Sally anymore,” she said, adding that the show has “moved on” and that Sally has a “nice life somewhere”.

While discussing a possible return, Ritchie seemingly remained open to the idea, saying she might come back “if asked”, but she soon talked herself out of it, saying: “That’s a chapter of my life that’s done.”

Elsewhere in the show, Ritchie said she has been approached by producers “numerous times” who were attempting to gauge her interest in a comeback.

She also revealed that she doesn’t have much time to watch the soap, saying: “I think I sat down maybe about five years ago and watched one episode, but I couldn’t bear seeing other people living in my house and sitting on my couch for a while.”

Speaking to TV Week last year, Ritchie opened up about the rumours, confirming that a return for Sally is “not [happening] any day soon”, adding that she isn’t opposed to going back one day.

“They didn’t kill me off so I guess I could probably head back one day, but it feels like a lifetime ago now,” she said. “And it’s very well looked after without me there, so I don’t think so.”
