Hot Shocking Update!!Two of Coronation Street’s most loved stars have signed new contracts
We bring you good news if you’re a fan of the Shuttleworth siblings in Coronation Street, as neither of them are leaving anytime soon.
Tony Maudsley and Jodie Prenger play the roles of George and Glenda Shuttleworth. Tony’s character arrived in 2020, while Glenda headed to Weatherfield in 2022.
Running the Shuttleworth funeral parlour is hugely important to George, as he inherited the business after his dad Archie’s death in 2018.
When he isn’t helping the residents of the cobbles plan their goodbyes to loved ones, George is often seen looking out for Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce). George thinks of Todd as a son, and still cares about him even though his relationship with Todd’s mum Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) has ended.
The two characters have become Weatherfield staples
George is now seeing Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins). They remain worried about Todd, who’s behaviour has changed a lot in recent months as a result of his abusive relationship with Theo Silverton (James Cartwright). Both George and Christina are keeping a watchful eye over Todd, but are yet to discover exactly what’s been going on.
The character doesn’t face Weatherfield drama often, but has become a staple of the community due to his charming and caring personality.
He is hugely loved by fans, so Tony Maudsley revealing the news George Shuttleworth is going to be sticking around until at least 2027 has left viewers delighted.
The actor, who is 58, confirmed George’s future on his Instagram over the weekend. Sharing a picture of him holding a glass of fizz, Tony wrote alongside: ‘New contract? Cheers Corrie, don’t mind if I do. (I bit their hand off!) Can’t wait to see what’s around the corner for George (aside from more corpses)’.
In the comments section, Tony’s followers shared their happiness over George staying on the cobbles. ‘Great your character in Corrie is good and at least brings so humour to the show for a change congratulations’, this person shared.
Jacky wrote: ‘Well done Tony brilliant news. You are a great actor xx’.
Sharon added: ‘Fabulous news. Great photo xxx’.
Wherever George goes these days, his sister Glenda isn’t too far behind. The character arrived in Weatherfield after spending time on cruise ships, and has now become an absolute icon behind the bar at the Rovers Return pub.
Relishing in the wonder of continuing her journey on the famous cobbles, Jodie said: ‘I’ve just signed a new contract, so I’m going to be on Corrie for another year’.
She added to her chat with the Daily Star: ‘I always get nervous about whether or not they’ll want me to stay, so I was thrilled when I got the offer. I knew straightaway I was going to sign. I love being on the show so I’m thrilled to be staying for another year.’
This week in Coronation Street, George will call a crisis meeting with Glenda and Christina, as the future of the funeral parlour remains at risk.
A couple of days ago, Christina made a joke about George inveigling his way into clients’ will. He was left completely mortified after, as George discovered potential client Mrs Ripley had overheard the entire exchange.
A while later, Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) told George that Annie has hired him to contest his mother’s will, and it would be best if he hires a solicitor as well.
With Annie believing that George and Christina are fraudsters, the couple chat with Glenda about the business, but they’re interrupted as George’s solicitor is calling.
Will they bring more bad news?
