But according to Todd himself, the show’s dramatic ending may not have come as unexpectedly as fans once believed. In a revealing new interview, the 57-year-old reality star claims

he had already begun preparing to step away from the series long before the legal storm that ultimately changed everything.

Todd made the surprising revelation while speaking alongside wife Julie Chrisley and daughter Savannah Chrisley in promotion of their new Lifetime docuseries, The Chrisleys: Back to Reality. “Everyone was fighting with me,” Todd recalled with a laugh. “They kept saying, ‘You have to do another season.’ And I kept telling them, ‘No, I’m not doing it. You all have been doing it just as long as I have. If you want to keep going, then keep going.’”

Yet the future Todd imagined for himself never had the chance to unfold the way he planned. In June 2022, Todd and Julie Chrisley were convicted on federal charges related to tax evasion and bank fraud. The legal case quickly brought their television empire to an abrupt halt.

By the time the final episodes of Chrisley Knows Best aired in March 2023, the situation had already shifted dramatically. The long-running series ended quietly just two months after Todd and Julie reported to federal prison, marking a stark and emotional conclusion to a show that had once seemed unstoppable.

“I’ll be watching the first season just like everyone else,” he admitted. “We haven’t seen clips. Some of the things in the show will shock us the same way they shock the fans.”
