BREAKING NEWS: Emmerdale spoilers: Aaron’s touching gesture kicks off new Robert era

This is the dawn of a new Emmerdale era. The Sugdens are returning to Butler’s Farm with Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) heading up the new dynasty.

How was this bright new day achieved?  Well, you can’t make an omelette without breaking some Dingles… It’s fair to say that Robron have earned their happily ever after.

After being stalked and tormented by Robert’s unhinged ex-husband Kev Towsend (Christopher Coghill), then stalked and tormented by Aaron’s unhinged ex-husband John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth),

fans of the Dales are eager for this iconic couple to find a bit of joy. Be careful what you wish for.

The original occupants of Butler’s Farm, the Sugdens, will finally be setting foot back in the old homestead, all thanks to Robert.

It’s just a shame he had to stab Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) in the back to do it.

The broodiest Dingle in the Dales is besieged by tragedy. Not only is he struggling with a life-changing stage 4 prostate cancer diagnosis, but his wife Moira Barton (Natalie J Robb) is in prison after being framed for the crimes of drug-dealing people trafficker Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths) – because Robert framed her.

Cain is having a hard time dealing with his diagnosis without Moira by his side

In a deal with the Devil of the Dales, Robert agreed to plant dodgy invoices in Moira’s house for the scheming trust-fund baby of Home Farm, Joe Tate (Ned Porteous), who is determined to get his hands on Butler’s Farm. In return for Robert’s part in his evil scheme, Joe promised to let him back into Butler’s as a tenant.

While Cain fought to keep Butler’s afloat, the stress of wrestling with a life-changing illness and being a father to two boys ultimately proved too much. He confided the full extent of his cancer diagnosis to Moira , during an emotional two-hander in prison where there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

This prompted a devastated Moira to ultimately decide that her business wasn’t worth her husband’s health, so she came to the heart-breaking decision to sell Butler’s farm.

With the news spreading round the village, Joe and Robert are finally free to launch their plan into action – as soon as Cain and his family are gone from the farm for good.

Robert reluctantly struck a bargain with the villainous Joe to get Butler’s Farm

In upcoming scenes, Robert finally reclaims his family’s legacy, becoming the first Sugden to live at Butler’s since Andy Sugden before he left in 2009.

While Cain and his boys are moving out, Robert awkwardly moves in, offering Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano) a job – probably the least he can do in the circumstances.  It seems like Robert’s reign is getting off to a rough start…

But later, Robert’s moved when Aaron makes a massive heartfelt gesture by repairing the old ‘Emmerdale Farm’. As the pair reflect on the ‘Sugden’s Reboot’, they prepare to begin a new chapter together.

It’s a touching moment, but the Dingles may not see it that way when they find out how Robert betrayed Cain by being in cahoots with Joe Tate. It’s sure to start the mother of all domestics with Aaron in the middle, forced to choose between his family and the love of his life.

It looks like the new Sugden Era of Emmerdale Farm is sure to start with a bang!
