Breaking news: Virgin River Season 8 Starts Filming at Last
After seven seasons of emotional twists, Virgin River is preparing for a major evolution.
Netflix has confirmed that Season 8 is now in production, with Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson returning as Mel Monroe and Jack Sheridan. The announcement arrives just weeks after Season 7 premiered, continuing the streaming drama’s status as one of Netflix’s most enduring original series.

But unlike earlier seasons centered heavily around romance, weddings, and small-town conflicts, Season 8 appears ready to focus on something more grounded: parenthood.
The upcoming episodes will follow Mel and Jack as they care for their newborn son, who was born with a severe heart condition requiring specialized medical treatment. The emotional stakes are heightened even further by the involvement of Eli, Mel’s former partner, who now serves as the child’s surgeon.

According to showrunner Patrick Sean Smith, the season will examine how the pressure of raising a child with special medical needs impacts the couple’s marriage and personal identities.
The shift could mark one of the series’ most mature storylines to date.
Season 8 will consist of 10 episodes, though Netflix has not yet announced a premiere date.
