Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers confirm some major casting news that two big stars have been dropped from their contracts and placed on recurring status.

DOOL fans are learning about this, just after the announcement that former General Hospital star, Sofia Mattsson (ex-Sasha Gilmore), has joined the Peacock soap and is already filming.

As of this writing, the show is being a tad secretive about the role Mattsson will be playing and her storyline. Days viewers can expect to see Mattsson debut sometime in early 2027,

so it’ll be interesting to see how she shakes things up in Salem! As per Jason47, the Days of Our Lives closing credits this week reveal a prominent actor and an actress in major storylines who have been dropped from their contracts and are now recurring.

The two DOOL players affected are Galen Gering, who plays Rafe Hernandez, and Elia Cantu, who plays Jada Hunter.

Gering has been a massive part of the daytime drama’s storylines since he entered the canvas in 2008.

Rafe stepped into Salem as an FBI agent watching over Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) while she was in the witness protection program, and the two fell in love.

He grew to become a major character within storylines over the years, and established real roots in the little town.

Gering hopped over to Days after a nine-year run on another NBC daytime drama, Passions, where he played Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald from 1999 to 2008. This makes Gering’s drop to recurring status that much more shocking.

Meanwhile, Cantu entered storylines in 2022, playing Jada, a cop who eventually climbed up the Salem PD ladder to become police commissioner.

Jada has had a few romances during her tenure, including one with Rafe, and has grown to be a fan favorite on the soap.

It’s important to note that just because Gering and Cantu now have recurring characters, this doesn’t mean they are leaving the show anytime soon.

It just means that fans won’t necessarily see them quite as often and only when they are needed for specific stories.

Still, many DOOL characters are recurring (actually, a lot of characters across the five soaps are), and they are quite active on the canvas, despite their portrayers not being on contract.

Days of Our Lives spoilers remind fans that as it stands now, Jada and Rafe are very busy with their own respective storylines – Jada has her hands full keeping the streets of Salem clean and busting criminals, while Rafe has his ISA case on EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel).

It’ll be interesting to see if anything major happens with them in the months ahead.
