on Days of Our Lives. And really, what better way to make that connection than with a little, er, grip placement advice? We’re talking, of course,

about the double entendre-laden golf session Gwen gave to her ex, which ended with the two hopping into bed once again for a little Valentine’s Day snuggle.

Before they made it into their skivvies, though, Gwen took a moment to ask Xander about how long his candle for Sarah would burn. His response? It might be going out at that very minute! And while spoilers have Gwen and Xander connecting on Wednesday, she might want to temper her expectations if she’s hoping for much beyond a roll in the hay with her former fiancé.

Because when Soaps.com spoke with Paul Telfer, he made it clear, Xander’s head is not in the game! “I would say that he’s not open to romance with anyone, really,” he admitted. “Only because he knows that now is the time to work internally. To work on himself.”

Xander’s taking his therapy and his growth more seriously than he ever has before. And for once, he seems to want it to stick.

So far, he’s been doing a decent job of it. Though if we’re being honest, just as Sarah admitted that some part of her might be interested in Brady to get under her ex’s skin, we’re pretty sure the same would be true for Xander! Who better to tick Sarah off than another fling with Gwen? So sure, Xander may be putting the work in to be better, but he’s far from a saint.

“If some beautiful lady were to swan into Salem,” Telfer admitted, “it might turn [Xander’s] head.” Well, that beautiful lady is clearly Gwen, and it has certainly turned his head. “But,” the actor added, “I think he’s aware enough at this point to know that now is not a good time, even if the door to Sarah feels like it’s nailed shut and he’ll never get her back.”

We couldn’t help but notice the “now” in that statement. So that’s not to say that Xander and Gwen would be impossible if the door to Sarah really was closed forever! But, as Telfer put it, “he just needs time to be himself before getting all confused and chasing after some other beautiful girl.”

But hey, that doesn’t mean he and Gwen can’t have a little fun while he works on himself. After all, there’s always a slim chance it won’t blow up in both their faces!
