Big Trouble!! Emmerdale cast rush to support Kerry star as she shares emotional life update
The Emmerdale family has once again proven that its strongest bonds exist beyond the screen, as cast members rushed to support Laura Norton following
a heartfelt and deeply personal life update that moved fans and colleagues alike. The 42-year-old actress, best known for her long-running role as Kerry Wyatt,
took to social media this week to share an emotional milestone involving her family — and the response from her co-stars was immediate, warm, and full of love.
Laura has been a fixture of the ITV soap since 2012, when Kerry Wyatt first arrived in the Yorkshire village as the troubled, fiercely protective mother of Amy Wyatt. Over more than a decade on screen, Kerry has evolved into one of Emmerdale’s most complex and unpredictable characters, carrying storylines that have ranged from heartbreak to redemption, comedy to controversy.
But away from the drama of the Dales, Laura’s real-life journey has been marked by challenges that far outweigh anything her character has faced — and it was this reality that lay at the heart of her emotional announcement.
Laura shares her life with former Emmerdale actor Mark Jordon, who viewers will remember as the much-loved Daz Eden. Together, they are parents to two young sons, five-year-old Jesse and three-year-old Ronnie. Both boys have been diagnosed with Usher Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that causes hearing loss, progressive vision impairment, and, in some cases, balance difficulties.
The diagnosis has shaped much of the family’s life in recent years, and Laura and Mark have become vocal advocates for awareness, inclusion, and representation for children living with hearing loss.
On Thursday, February 5, the couple jointly shared an Instagram post revealing their involvement in a major new Peppa Pig campaign — a moment that clearly held profound significance for them both.
The campaign storyline sees Peppa Pig’s younger brother, George, diagnosed with moderate hearing loss and beginning to wear a hearing aid — a move designed to normalise hearing differences for young audiences around the world.
In their post, Laura and Mark explained why the project meant so much to them.
“We’re so proud to have been involved in the launch of this wonderful campaign,” they wrote. “Peppa’s little brother George has been diagnosed with moderate hearing loss and will wear a hearing aid.”
They revealed that they had been approached by toy giant Hasbro and the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) to represent the parental perspective — an opportunity they embraced without hesitation.
“We were asked by @hasbro and @ndcs_uk to represent the parental side and jumped at the chance,” the couple continued. “Awareness is key and the huge positive impact this will have on children with hearing loss and their families is so exciting.”
For Laura and Mark, the importance of the storyline goes far beyond a single television moment. It represents validation, visibility, and hope — not just for their own sons, but for countless families navigating similar paths.
“It normalises hearing loss,” their message went on. “It shows people with hearing loss are just like everyone else. Capable, able and resilient. It will promote empathy and understanding. Invaluable.”
The couple also shared how deeply moved they were after previewing the first episodes of the storyline, praising its authenticity and emotional depth.
“We were lucky enough to watch the first two episodes of this journey,” they explained. “With the advice of the @ndcs_uk it’s so authentic. Beautiful to watch. Informative, funny and moving.”
Their pride was unmistakable as they concluded: “Such a brilliant moment and we are so proud to be representing this campaign. Can’t wait for you all to see and can’t wait to see more.”
Within minutes of the post going live, the comments section was flooded with messages of support — particularly from Laura’s Emmerdale colleagues, who have worked alongside her for years and know her strength both on and off screen.
Lisa Riley, who plays Mandy Dingle, was one of the first to respond, writing: “Fantastic news — adore you both.”
Isabel Hodgins, known to viewers as Victoria Sugden, added simply but powerfully: “So much love.”
Belle Dingle actress Eden Taylor-Draper commented: “Amazing,” while Emma Atkins, who portrays Charity Dingle, echoed the sentiment with: “Incredible.”
Former cast member Kelvin Fletcher, who once played Andy Sugden and shared major storylines with Laura on screen, also showed his support, writing: “This is incredible. Just amazing.”
The outpouring of affection underscored just how respected Laura is within the Emmerdale family — not only for her acting talent, but for her honesty, resilience, and willingness to use her platform to drive meaningful change.
On screen, Kerry Wyatt has never been an easy character. She has lied, schemed, loved fiercely, and made catastrophic mistakes. Viewers have watched her battle diabetes, fight to rebuild her relationship with Amy, endure heartbreak in her romance with Andy Sugden, and infamously fake a terminal illness to secure a wedding to Dan Spencer.
Most recently, fans were stunned on Christmas Eve 2025 when Kerry unexpectedly married Eric Pollard — a shocking move driven by desperation to protect money Eric had been saving for his grandson Jacob Gallagher.
Yet while Kerry’s choices often divide opinion, Laura Norton’s real-life story has united fans in admiration.
Her openness about her children’s diagnosis and her advocacy for better representation has added a powerful new layer to her public image, transforming her from soap favourite into a voice for families who rarely see themselves reflected on screen.
For many viewers, Laura’s update was emotional not because it was sad — but because it was hopeful. It marked a moment of progress, visibility, and compassion in children’s television, driven by parents who understand firsthand how much representation truly matters.
As Emmerdale continues to deliver drama in the Dales, moments like this remind fans that behind the storylines are real people facing real challenges — and supporting one another every step of the way.
In rallying around Laura Norton, the Emmerdale cast has once again shown that while soap rivalries may dominate the screen, off camera, solidarity and love always come first.
