Coronation Street has finally confirmed the true identity of mystery newcomer Jodie in a tense ITVX cliffhanger. Her arrival signals the start of a major new storyline for Shona Platt.

Fans have spent days speculating about Jodie after she was seen secretly watching the Platt family following her unsettling on-screen debut.

Wednesday’s episode (7 January) currently available on ITVX and YouTube ahead of its ITV1 broadcast delivered the long-awaited reveal.

The special single-storyline episode focused entirely on David and Shona as they prepared for a complex surgery that could save the life of their baby daughter.

 

Emotions ran high when the original consultant was detained forcing the hospital to bring in replacement surgeon Vincent Harper which was a decision that left the couple riddled with anxiety.

Meanwhile Jodie continued to lurk nearby following the Platts from Hotten General to Weatherfield General.

Her behaviour grew increasingly disturbing when she stole a teddy bear from Shona’s hospital room and buried her face in Shona’s dressing gown to breathe in her scent.

After the operation was declared a success and David and Shona finally met their baby Jodie watched them from outside the room.

When questioned by a stranger about whether she was the child’s mother Jodie chillingly replied: “Proud auntie.”

The moment confirmed Jodie as Shona’s sister which is a twist first teased through their matching tattoos and Jodie’s visible shock upon seeing the Platts earlier in the week.

Jodie was first introduced during the Corriedale crossover storyline having escaped from a van driven by returning Emmerdale character Graham Foster who later abandoned his sinister plans for her.

Fans have since speculated Graham may now be working as a hitman.

Spoilers suggest Jodie will soon confront Shona directly but whether her arrival brings healing or chaos remains to be seen.
