SoapsCoronation Street: Catherine Tyldesley Breaks Silence on Major Rovers Return Shake-Up

Coronation Street is gearing up for one of its most thrilling chapters yet as the beloved Rovers Return reopens under new management — and a familiar face steps behind the bar.

Eva Price, played by Catherine Tyldesley, makes her dramatic return to the cobbles later this month, marking the start of a bold new era for the iconic Weatherfield pub.

After a seven-year absence, Eva’s comeback isn’t just about nostalgia — it’s about reigniting one of the show’s most treasured institutions with heart, humor, and high drama.

This time around, Eva won’t be alone. Her partner Ben Driscoll, portrayed by Shameless star Aaron McCusker, drops a bombshell that sets the tone for her return — he’s bought The Rovers for them, officially taking over from Jenny Connor after her emotional departure. But with The Rovers, peace never lasts for long. Eva arrives with her daughter Susie and Ben’s two sons in tow, creating an instant blended family dynamic. And in a juicy twist, one of Ben’s boys is none other than Dee-Dee Bailey’s secret boyfriend, Ollie — a revelation that’s bound to stir up drama across Weatherfield.

As if that weren’t enough, Eva also faces another formidable presence: her meddling future mother-in-law Maggie, played by the incomparable Pauline McLynn (Father Ted, EastEnders). Maggie’s arrival guarantees chaos, comedy, and a battle of wills that promises to make this new Rovers chapter one of the most entertaining in years.

In her first major interview since confirming her comeback, Tyldesley revealed that she’s thrilled to return to the role that made her a household name — and that this new version of Eva is both familiar and evolved.

“When I was asked to come back, I wanted to know what Eva had been through all these years,” she explained. “I assumed she’d be scarred or broken — but Kate [Brooks, Corrie producer] told me she’s been happy. She’s met this wonderful man, she’s in love, she’s got this great blended family. It’s actually been lovely. That surprised me — but it felt right.”

Unlike many returning characters burdened by trauma, Eva reappears strong, refreshed, and ready to take on The Rovers as its new landlady. Tyldesley describes Eva’s new romance with Ben as “a powerhouse relationship built on mutual respect and love,” adding that their on-screen chemistry was instant.

“I adore Aaron,” she said warmly. “We’d almost worked together several times, so it feels like fate. And then to have Pauline McLynn join as Maggie — she’s incredible. Her first scene is a total mic-drop moment. The tension, the wit, the chaos — it’s all there.”

The dynamic between Eva and Maggie, Tyldesley teases, will provide some of the show’s most delicious drama. “At first, Eva’s just irritated by her. But as time goes on, she realizes Maggie’s a lot sharper and more manipulative than she thought. There’s a moment where Eva goes, ‘Right, I’ve got your number now,’ and that’s when things get really interesting.”

Still, Eva’s no pushover. Known for her bubbly demeanor and glamorous flair, she also has a fierce side. “People underestimate Eva because she’s a bit dizzy and fun,” Catherine laughed. “But she’s tough. She’s been through a lot, and now she’s a mother and a businesswoman. She’s her mother Stella’s daughter — strong, determined, and loyal to her family. That strength is going to show in new ways.”

The Rovers Return has long been the heartbeat of Coronation Street, and bringing Eva back to helm it is both a nostalgic nod and a bold new beginning. “It’s an absolute dream,” Tyldesley admitted. “When Kate asked me if I wanted to be landlady, I nearly screamed! I watched Corrie as a kid and always thought, ‘How amazing would it be to run The Rovers?’ It’s iconic.”

Timing, she said, played a huge part in her decision. “I’d been away filming abroad for months and wanted to be closer to my family in Manchester. It just felt right. My husband Tom even joked, ‘I hope your next job’s in Manchester,’ and then — boom — the call came. It felt like the universe aligning.”

Returning to Weatherfield also meant reuniting with her on-screen sisters — Jane Danson (Leanne) and Georgia Taylor (Toyah). Their sibling chemistry has always been a fan favorite, and Tyldesley promises that dynamic is stronger than ever. “We’ve always kept in touch, even had a ‘sister chat’ going. When we got back on set, it felt like no time had passed. The three of them together — they’re such a force. It’s about sisterhood, loyalty, and that fierce Corrie spirit.”

And what about those lingering feelings between Eva and her former flame Adam Barlow? “There’s definitely still warmth there,” she admitted. “They have history, but they’re mature about it. They’ve stayed in touch, they’re friends. Ben doesn’t have to worry — although Maggie might stir the pot a bit!”

Tyldesley also reflected on her character’s growth and her own evolution as an actress. “Eva’s still got that fire — she’s spontaneous, emotional, sometimes reckless — but she’s also wiser now. Being a mum’s grounded her. She’s got responsibilities, but she hasn’t lost her sparkle.”

When it comes to filling the shoes of Rovers legends like Bet Lynch and Liz McDonald, Tyldesley is both humble and excited. “You can’t compare. Those women were icons. But I do think Eva brings something different — a mix of humor, heart, and chaos. And that’s pure Corrie.”

Her return has already sparked massive excitement among fans, with social media buzzing since the first hints leaked online. “The reaction has been overwhelming,” Catherine shared. “People have been so supportive and nostalgic. Everyone remembers the fountain scene with Maria! It’s been lovely to feel that warmth again.”

As the cobbles prepare for the grand reopening of The Rovers, it’s clear Eva’s arrival will shake up Weatherfield life in all the right ways. With Maggie stirring trouble, Ben striving to keep the peace, and Eva determined to prove herself as a worthy landlady, Coronation Street looks set to serve up laughter, love, and plenty of drama — just the way fans like it.

Tyldesley summed it up best: “It feels like coming home. The Rovers is such a symbol of community and resilience — and Eva’s the perfect woman to lead it into a new era. I can’t wait for everyone to see what’s coming.”

As Weatherfield raises a glass to its next chapter, one thing’s for sure — The Rovers Return has never felt more alive. And with Eva Price back behind the bar, the heart of Coronation Street is beating stronger than ever.
